The Beaches brand has spent 30 years perfecting the family all-inclusive formula. The result is a portfolio of three resorts in Jamaica and one in Turks & Caicos that deliver genuine excellence for every age group: toddlers experiencing their first beach, teenagers who want independence, and grandparents who want a comfortable chair and a cold drink in the shade. In all my years of specializing in Sandals and Beaches properties, I've sent hundreds of families through this portfolio, and my understanding of which resort suits which family is as precise as anything in my practice.
Beaches Turks & Caicos: The Undisputed Flagship
Beaches Turks & Caicos is the finest family all-inclusive resort I have ever visited, full stop. The water (Grace Bay's legendary turquoise, powder-soft and shallow for hundreds of yards from the shore) is incomparable. The facilities are vast: a water park, multiple pools, a full scuba program with PADI certification for adults, a 45,000-square-foot waterpark, and a dining program that spans 21 restaurants and bars, including options that would be genuinely competitive as standalone restaurants in any American city. The scope of what is included in a single rate at this property exceeds what most families could exhaust in two weeks, which is why many of my Turks clients come back year after year. There's always something they didn't get to on the previous visit.
"I've visited every Beaches property multiple times: as an advisor, as a family traveler, and as an inspector. The Turks & Caicos property is in a category of its own. The others are wonderful, but this one is exceptional."
Beaches Negril vs. Beaches Ocho Rios
Jamaica's two Beaches properties are genuinely distinct, and the choice between them depends on what your family most wants from the experience. Beaches Negril sits on the famous Seven Mile Beach, one of the most naturally beautiful stretches of sand in the Caribbean, soft and wide and lined with palms. The property has a more laid-back, intimate character than Ocho Rios. It's smaller, the pace is gentler, and it suits families with younger children or parents who want a quieter atmosphere. Beaches Ocho Rios is larger, more energetic, and positioned closer to a greater range of off-property excursions: Dunn's River Falls, the Bob Marley Experience, river tubing. For families with older children who want cultural experiences alongside resort luxury, Ocho Rios consistently delivers.
The Kids' Programs and Character Experiences
The Sesame Street character program at all Beaches properties is one of the most genuinely executed character experiences in the all-inclusive world. Elmo, Cookie Monster, and their friends appear for scheduled character breakfasts, beach parties, and theatrical shows that are genuinely well-produced. You won't find the perfunctory appearances that characterize some resort character programs. The kids' clubs are staffed by trained counselors with age-appropriate programming across three age ranges: Pirates Island for toddlers, Xbox Play Lounge for teens, and Camp Sesame for the middle group. The teen program deserves particular attention. Beaches has invested meaningfully in creating a teen experience that actually engages 14 to 17-year-olds, which is one of the hardest demographics to serve in family resort programming.
Booking Strategy for Families
The optimal time to visit Beaches resorts as a family is during the shoulder seasons, late April through mid-June and late August through October, when rates drop significantly from peak holiday periods and the properties are meaningfully less crowded. If school calendars require summer or holiday travel, booking 9 to 12 months in advance is essential for securing the best room configurations, particularly for extended family groups that require connecting or adjacent rooms. My role as a Beaches specialist means I have access to room inventories, negotiated amenities, and group block arrangements that simply aren't available through public booking channels. For a family of four, the advisor advantage at Beaches typically translates to hundreds of dollars in complimentary amenities and upgrades. That's far more than any comparison-shopping exercise on a booking site will produce.
